GarageBand for Beginners

Course Outline
“GarageBand turns your Apple Mac into a self-contained recording studio – just add some imagination! Now anyone can have fun composing music with state-of-the-art digital tools, but beware, it is addictive…” This course is designed for people with basic computer skills. No previous musical skill or ability is required. The course consists of 6 self-contained 1 hour modules –
  1. Set-Up
    Connecting keyboards, microphones and guitars – Adding more sounds – Software instruments – Monitoring and mixing – Recording music, podcasts or soundtracks.
  2. Basic Controls
    Tempo and key settings – Loops and samples – Navigating your song – Muting and soloing Record and playback controls – Track automation – The Master Track.
  3. Real Instruments
    Recording voice and keyboard – Adding effects – Punching in and out – Setting levels – Editing audio – Monitoring your music – Multiple takes.
  4. Apple Loops
    Selecting loops – Adjusting loops – Shorten and lenghthen your loops – Media browser – Changing loop keys and tempos – Making your own loops.
  5. Podcasting
    What is a podcast? – Why use Garageband? – Recording voice, music and sound fx Using pictures in your podcast – Adding URLs – Ducking audio.
  6. The Final Mix
    Sharing your music – Mix to CD or DVD – Sending to iTunes – Compression – Linking to iTunes, iMovie and iDVD – Further reading and tutorials.
